Winter Park Council to conduct special meeting tonight about school funding
Grand County, CO Colorado
Winter Park Town Council has organized an special meeting for 4 p.m. tonight, Feb. 3, to discuss ways to prevent the possible closing of Fraser Valley Elementary School next year.
The meeting was called by Mayor Jim Myers and Council member Katie Riemenschneider.
The school district has indicated that it might consider spending money from its reserves to keep Fraser Elementary and Grand Lake schools open through the November election if the community is willing to commit $500,000 toward keeping the school open for the entire school year.
According to Winter Park Town Manager Drew Nelson, the town is going to look at options tonight for raising that money, including possibly spending some money out of its own reserves.
The school board has asked the Fraser Valley community to return to its meeting in two weeks with a proposal for keeping the school open.
