Winter Park moves forward on next phase of housing, retail development

The town of Winter Park has begun construction on the second phase of the Sitmark South housing project, promising new retail and residential opportunities in Downtown Winter Park.

The town’s planning commission approved the site plan for buildings G and H on Dec. 12, paving the way for the creation of the mixed-use buildings off of Highway 40, adjacent to the recently opened Hideaway Place apartments and Fireside Market & Eatery.

The goal is to construct contemporary, mixed-use buildings with commercial retailers on the ground floor, and residential apartments on the second and third, according to design review documents.

In order to begin construction this winter, a large tent has been erected over the site, and is expected to be up for about four months.
