Winter Park Resort considers keeping Mary Jane open later this season
Hold off on booking those spring vacations, Grand County, because the Mary Jane might stay open late this season.
Winter Park Resort is set to close for the season following the Spring Bash & Splash on April 22, a date set in stone, but resort officials are currently considering whether or not to keep the Mary Jane Territory open late as they have in recent years.
“Right now I would say we’re leaning toward keeping the Jane open until the 29th, with a possibility of it staying open longer,” said Steve Hurlbert, director of communications for Winter Park Resort. “It’s not unheard of to have the Mary Jane open into May.”
While ski fans would certainly love to see the Mary Jane hold off on closing, it’s almost entirely dependent on the weather. Hurlbert said no decisions have been reached, and that the territory’s closing date is contingent on snowfall over the next few weeks.
But for the time being, it’s just too early to tell.
“With the Jane it’s always a bit of a moving target,” said Hurlbert. “The bottom line is if we stay open we want to make it a worth while experience for people. If it’s just open and it’s not any good than what’s the point? We want to make sure there’s a great ski surface that people can enjoy while they’re here. We won’t stay open just to stay open.”
