Winter Park Resort lift closed due to mechanical issue
Winter Park Resort’s Hi Lonesome Express lift has been closed since Jan. 18 due to a mechanical issue, according to the resort’s official blog.
The lift was shut down Jan. 18 for maintenance reasons and was originally planned to be down for several days. The resort then posted another update Jan. 25 saying that the issue has been identified and that the resort is waiting for the manufacturer, Leitner-Poma, to repair the problem part.
“The current issue we’re seeing is related to a problem we encountered last year with vibration on the input shaft from the gear box,” the blog post reads. “While we resolved the issue last season, it has recurred in a different manner this year. The shaft/gear assembly has been removed and is currently in Grand Junction with Leitner-Poma for disassembly so they can diagnose the root cause.”
Winter Park Resort spokesperson Jen Miller said the resort doesn’t have an estimated date for reopening the lift, but she confirmed they are working on it.
“We’ve been waiting on a particular part to arrive from the manufacturer, and that’s the main reason there’s been a longer delay,” Miller said.
In the meantime, Hi Lonesome terrain and trails can be accessed from the Super Gauge and Sunnyside Express lifts.
