Staff Report

Winter Park Resort’s annual Vans King of the Grommets slopestyle event is set to kick off this Saturday.

The competition, exclusively fro competitors 15 and younger, is a slopestyle competition wherein, “skiers and riders seek to wow the judges as they perform their best tricks on rails, boxes and jumps in Re-railer Terrain Park,” according to officials from the Winter Park Competition Center.

The event is broken down into four separate age categories for both the men’s and women’s divisions: nine and under, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15.

“The competition is open to the first 100 competitors who register and is open to the general public,” Competition Center officials stated. “As such, pre-registering is encouraged.”

Anyone looking to preregister for the event will find a reduced registration fee. Competitor lift tickets are available for any prospective athletes who do not already have a season pass. Registration forms can be found on the Winter Park Resort website by searching for Vans King of the Grommets.

The event is sponsored by the shoe manufacturing company Vans. Winners of the competition receive bragging rights.
