Winter Park Resort: Panoramic Express Chairlift now open

Skiers and snowboarders could have an additional 100 acres to cover at 9 a.m. today with the opening of the Panoramic Express Chairlift, said Jenn deBerge Winter Park Resort communications manager.The opening of the lift is weather dependent, she said.The Panoramic Express is North Americas highest six-passenger chairlift. Once the lift is operational it will give riders and skiers access to the top of the mountain. As of Thursday, the resorts Web site reported that it has received 98.8 inches of snow, with a summit depth of 45 inches.This weekend, Winter Park Resort kicks into holiday gear with a full line-up of events. A complete schedule of weekend activities include:Event ScheduleSaturday and Sunday, December 20 – 219:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.: US Freestyle SelectionsThe biggest names in freestyle skiing are at Winter Park Resort for the United States Freestyle Mogul Selections. Watch as these amazing skiers compete to garner a coveted spot on the United States Ski Team and possibly secure Olympic status. Competition runs will be held on the Ambush course, visible from the base of Winter Park. All events are open for public viewing, free of charge. 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Surefoot Colorado Ski CupWatch as the Rocky Mountain’s top male and female qualifiers battle it out on Winter Park Resort’s high-speed Super G course, located on the Hughes trail in the Surefoot Colorado Ski Cup. 12:30 – 4:30 p.m.: Pictures with Santa in the new Village GazeboThere is still time to tell Santa what you want for Christmas. Swing by the Village Gazebo and get your picture taken by Sharp Shooters.
