Winter Park: Ted Nugent headlines Hawg Fest
Pull out your leather and tune-up your steel horse as Winter Park Resort hosts the 103.5 The Fox Hawg Fest which highlights seven national, regional and local live music acts, vendors, food and beer garden.Morning radio personalities Rick Lewis and Michael Floorwax are the masterminds behind The Groove Hawgs, set to play 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday and noon to 1 p.m. Sunday. They formed the band in 1997 after performing stand-up comedy shows, with some musical performance, for sold-out audiences around the state for most of the early 1990s. Current line-up includes vocalist Kolby Morris, Derrick Terrabell (bass and vocals), Johnny Vaughan (guitar), James Nelson (drums), Joe Sellars (organ), Andrew Kort (saxophone), Jake Ball (trumpet), and Steve Crenshaw.With a career spanning more than three decades, George Lynch has been one of the most recognized heavy metal guitar names in the world. He and band Lynch Mob are scheduled to play 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday. In between working with legendary band Dokken, Lynch took a different approach with band Lynch Mob. Members include Robert Mason, Anthony Esposito, and Michael Frowein.Pop metal kingpins Erik Turner (guitar), Joey Allen (lead guitar), Jani Lane (vocals), Steven Sweet (drums) and Jerry Dixon (bass) of Warrant are set to rock the stage 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The multi-platinum-selling rock band is best known for hits like Cherry Pie and rock anthem The Down Boys.Teslas multi-platinum rockers Jeff Keith (vocals), Frank Hannon (guitars), Brian Wheat (bass), Troy Luccketta (drums) and Dave Rude (guitar) round out Saturdays line-up 6 to 7:30 p.m. The band celebrates the release of its seventh studio album Forever More in October and the first single, I Wanna Live, will be in the hands of radio stations nationwide Aug. 18. The band kicks off its world tour Oct. 1 and its first double-disc collection of best tracks and collectibles, Gold, will be available Aug. 26. The CD which comes with his newest project, DVD 10 Days Out … Blues From the Backroads, was nominated for a Grammy for best traditional blues album. The film documents traveling the country to jam with and pay homage to the last of the authentic blues greats, six of which have died since filming, whose music is documented on the film.Guitar wildman Ted Nugent headlines the festival, playing 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. Sunday with Greg Smith on bass and Mick Brown on drums. His restless, right-wing spirit has driven him into many other ventures, but his talent on the six-string is the one that has earned him a place among the legends of rock. Hes had the privilege of playing Hawg Fest twice before and the Nuge says he loves everything about it. That it is in Gods lap of the Colorado Rocky Mountains is a major bonus.
