Winter Park Town Council increases right-of-way violation fee and approves events for National Sports Center for the Disabled
For Sky-Hi News
The Winter Park Town Council approved an amendment to the town code Jan. 21 that would increase the maximum penalty for violating the town’s right-of-way laws. The council also approved special event permits for two upcoming ski events hosted at Winter Park Resort.
Right-of-way, or easement, laws permit construction projects to use land belonging to someone else, including the town, if there is no other available land. The maximum fine for violating right-of-way laws is $300, but the council is seeking to raise it to $2,500, the maximum allowed by the state.
The council also granted permits for two events for the National Sports Center for the Disabled at the meeting. The first event, from Feb. 20-22, is the annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup. The other event, which will take place March 22, is a fundraiser called Ski for NSCD, where members of the public can spend the day on the slopes to support the nonprofit’s adaptive programs. Other agenda items at the council’s meeting included authorizing the purchase of two new buses for the town’s fleet and reappointing Al Furlone to represent the town on the Fraser River Valley Housing Partnership Board.
