The Winter Park Winter Carnival and Mary Jane’s 38th Birthday bash is set to begin on Friday Jan. 25, and the festivities will continue throughout the weekend.Among the more notable attractions of the Winter Park Carnival are the ice sculptures on display in both the Town of Winter Park and at Winter Park Resort. This year there will be an interactive ice sculpture located at Hideaway Park as well as numerous ice sculptures and an ice castle at the resort. There will also be a snow sculpture contest on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Winter Park Resort and Mary Jane.New to the carnival this year is the Winter Park Xtreme SnowDash, which will take place Saturday at Hideaway Park and will run through the old Idlewilde ski area. The 5k race, which does not require snowshoes, will have racers running uphill through the snow, climbing over cargo nets, and crawling through powder pits to complete the obstacle course race with plenty of cheers from fans and loud music to help compel racers across the finish line. This race promises a large crowd and is expected to be a boatload of fun, according to Catherine Ross, executive director of the Winter Park & Fraser Chamber of Commerce. Registration is still open for the event and costs $60. Participants can register by visiting the Chamber’s website at, or you can visit the race’s website at for more information or to register. And , as always, the parade takes place in downtown Winter Park on Saturday starting at 6 p.m. The parade will be followed by fireworks and cupcakes to help celebrate Mary Jane’s birthday. The sticker is the culmination of the resort’s Mary Jane sticker design contest, which was well received according to a press release from the resort, promising some serious competitors for the winning sticker. And of course, what is a birthday celebration without cake? The resort will be serving free birthday cake at the Club Car from 3-6 p.m.The resort is giving away a gift of its own by providing a deal.
