Winter Park’s NSCD to host 6th Annual Paralympic Experience for Military Veterans

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) will welcome more than 50 Colorado veterans to participate in the 6th Annual NSCD Paralympic Experience for Veterans on Wednesday. The event is meant to encourage disabled veterans to retain sports and recreation as part of their daily lifestyles, in addition to rehabilitation and recovery.

The free event will be co-hosted by the Snow Mountain Ranch YMCA in Granby and the IceBox Ice Rink in Fraser, and will feature cross-country skiing, Nordic biathlon, curling, sled hockey and snowshoeing.

The experience comes in part thanks to a $20,000 donation from the AT&T Thank Our Heroes campaign; along with support from Snow Mountain Ranch, the Fraser Valley Recreation District, the Colorado Curling Club and the Warrior Avs sled hockey team.

“Thank you to AT&T for helping us grow out opportunities for veterans to try Paralympic sports,” said Kim Easton, president and CEO of the NSCD. “We have several successful veterans in our competition and recreational programs from alpine and snowboard to cross-country and Nordic biathlon.”

The event takes place Wednesday, Jan. 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
