The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for areas in south and southeast Grand County above 9,000 feet in elevation including Winter Park and Berthoud Pass. The advisory is set to be in effect from Monday morning until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, Feb. 18.

“Travel will not be recommended through the day today, especially as the chances for snow squalls increases later today,” stated Grand County Weather on its Facebook page.

Grand County could receive up to 5 inches of snow through Tuesday morning over the western half and up to 10 inches of snow over the eastern half, Grand County Weather stated. Up to 2 feet of additional snowfall is possible over the Rabbit Ears region, and another foot is expected over Berthoud Pass.

According to the storm warning, mountains above 10,000 feet could also experience wind gusts as high as 50 mph.

“We are not remotely out of the woods from this storm yet,” Grand County Weather stated.

The National Weather Service recommends keeping a flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle if you must travel.
