Winter weather advisory to take effect in Grand County this weekend

winter weather advisory is set to begin at 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, and last until 11 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, according to the National Weather Service. The advisory applies to areas in Grand County above 9,000 feet, including Winter Park, Berthoud Pass and Rocky Mountain National Park.

Snow accumulation of 4-8 inches and wind gusts of up to 45 mph are expected in the advisory area. Snow-covered roads are expected to make travel more hazardous, the advisory states.

At lower elevations outside the advisory zone, Grand County will still see some snow throughout the weekend.



Snow is likely Friday night, with about an inch possible, according to a National Weather Service forecast. Saturday will see a high of 24 degrees and an 80% chance of snow during the day with 1-2 inches of accumulation possible. Saturday night is expected to see a 30% chance of snow and new accumulation of less than an inch.

Cold weather will continue into Sunday, with a 40% to 60% chance of snow and a high in the teens, according to the forecast. Sunday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low dipping below zero.
