WP Resort: paid parking a success
Reflecting on its first season with paid parking lots, a spokesman for Winter Park Resort said the new program was a success.
Winter Park Resort started charging for parking in the Vintage Lot, Lot B and Lot C starting in November 2015.
“I think once people got used to it they enjoyed the convenience,” Hurlbert said. “I would say it was definitely successful, which is why our plan is to do it again next year, but that’s not to say that we still can’t make it better and work out some of the kinks.”
Hurlbert said the resort found that the paid lots were particularly popular among Front Range residents looking to leave later and avoid traffic on I-70.
At first, some locals and resort patrons complained about the lots.
“Initially, whenever you make changes, there’s always pushback,” Hurlbert said. “There are always some people that are change averse, and certainly at the outset we heard a lot of complaints, but through the season it seem led like more and more people were using it.”
Going forward, Hurlbert said the resort would continue to charge for parking in those lots, though it will evaluate the price point for parking in those lots.
“At the end of the season, we evaluate everything,” Hurlbert said. “We evaluate every single part of operation, and parking will be one of those things.”
The resort does not, however, plan to expand paid parking next season.
“We’re not going to increase paid parking anywhere, including the Jane, in the foreseeable future,” Hurlbert said, addressing rumors that the resort may charge for parking at Mary Jane next season.
