Hmmm Havent heard anything about global warming lately. I wonder why?Maybe its a silly subject when two thirds of the country is suffering from the deep freeze. Still, the days are getting longer (by about 45 minutes in the past month thanks to my trusty Farmers Almanac), and it warmed up to 20 degrees at my house earlier this week. Spring is just around the corner.We seem to really be getting in the mood for Winter Carnival, Saturday, Feb. 2. Its time to enter your team in the bed sled races. You can enter right up until race time. Or stop by the Chamber of Commerce with your $25 entry fee.This years theme is The Age of Aquarius, which is hoped will be reflected in the parade, snow sculptures, bed sled designs, snowman contest and Mardi Gras costumes. Sign up for these events today.Tickets for the Mardi Gras Ball at Pancho & Leftys are now on sale for $10 per person. Get yours at Pancho & Leftys, RE/MAX or the new Chamber office.The King and Queen candidates will be beating the streets this week trying to get your votes. At that time Peper and Maureen owned the famous Stagecoach. They didnt run that bar to get rich they figured out that was the best way to get all their friends to come and see them every day and it worked. I will miss Peper very much. There will be a memorial service at Stillwater on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the viewing at 11 a.m. Standing room only.An unlikely enterprise has emerged in the Grand Lake area so far from the fishing villages of the East and West Coasts Timberline Smoking Co., producing fresh smoked salmon. Try some today.Tireless, Doris Braun has organized a Pakistani Bowling tournament this Sunday to raise funds for the Fourth of July fireworks. Bowling sessions are at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. with eight, five-member teams playing per session. The cost is a $20 donation per person per session. In addition, there is a costume contest. Dress in your best firecracker red, white and blue or get started on the Age of Aquarius theme of next weeks Winter Carnival. There promises to be lots of fun and prizes.
