Library Corner: Exploring children’s resources at the library
Grand County Library District
Grand County Library District’s libraries are a treasure trove of resources for children, with an array of offerings designed to engage young minds. From interactive audio players to digital tablets and curated streaming services, these resources provide hours of fun learning opportunities. Here’s a closer look at some of the exciting children’s resources available at your local library.
Tonieboxes: Interactive audio play for kids
One of the most innovative new resources for children is Toniebox. This unique audio player is designed to bring stories, music and learning to life. Perfect for children as young as three, the Toniebox is easy to use and built for little hands. The device works with “tonies,” colorful figurines that activate audio content like stories, activities, and learning experiences. The Toniebox offers an engaging, screen-free experience that helps children learn and develop their imaginations.
Launchpad Tablets: Pre-loaded learning content
For a more tech-savvy approach to learning, the Library District offers Launchpad tablets. These tablets are preloaded with a wide range of educational content for kids, teens and adults. The tablets are easy to use, and there’s no need for Wi-Fi. The content covers subjects like math, science, history, emotional learning, creating and literacy. Whether it’s for a long road trip or an afternoon at home, Launchpads are an excellent way to provide children with hours of entertainment, while making learning fun.
Kanopy Kids: Free educational streaming platform
Another fantastic resource offered through the local libraries is Kanopy, a streaming service with a dedicated kids’ section. Kanopy Kids provides a safe, ad-free environment where children from two to eight can explore hours of streaming content curated just for them. With a focus on social-emotional learning and educational topics such as science, history and languages, Kanopy’s quality content enhances children’s intellectual growth. The best part? Parents can easily set up parental controls.
4 Grand Book Giveaway: A gift for every four-year-old
The district also sponsors the “4 Grand Book Giveaway,” a program that gifts every four-year-old child in the county a free book during the last week in April. The program is designed to encourage early literacy by giving children the chance to own their very own book. It’s a wonderful way to inspire an early love for reading! Each of our libraries is committed to making sure that Grand County’s children have access to high-quality, age-appropriate books that support their development.
Visit GCLD.org or stop by your nearest library branch to explore these resources and give your child the gift of knowledge and fun!
