Aren’t you just sick and tired of government overreach?

One sure-fire way to reel in this bloated beltway monster, according to Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, is to make bathroom hand-washing optional for restaurant workers. This would eliminate an entire level of intrusive bureaucratic oversight. The senator said it should be the employee’s choice, not something mandated by the government.

The senator’s remarks underscore the fact that, as a nation, we have dropped our guard and allowed idiots into influential positions.

The Colorado Department of Higher Education has decided to enforce licensing and oversight of yoga instructors. At exactly the same time, Colorado Sen. Kevin Lundberg wants to eliminate licensing and oversight for small day cares. OK, which would you prefer to oversee, a shapely yoga instructor or a pile of dirty diapers? Kids are expendable.

Rep. Steve Stockman of Texas tried to block federal funding for schools that punish children who play with imaginary weapons.

House Speaker John Boehner said that he and his fellow congressmen “ought to be judged on how many laws we repeal.” How can we expect Congress to fix anything when the goal is to tear down everything?

Nevada Assemblyman Jim Wheeler said he would vote to allow slavery if his constituents wanted him to. And I suppose if they wanted white slavery …

When someone pointed out to Sen. Rand Paul that he had plagiarized large portions of his speeches from “Gattaca” and “Stand and Deliver” he called them “hacks and haters” and challenged them to a duel, adding quickly that dueling was unfortunately illegal.

Rep. Joe Barton, another Texan and former chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, denied man-made climate change, explaining that we know global warming is a hoax because the Great Flood in the Bible obviously wasn’t caused by burning fossil fuel.

Georgia Congressman, Paul Broun, sits on the United States House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. He believes the world is 9,000 years old and that evolution and the big bang theory are “lies straight from the pit of Hell.”

American students’ science scores have slipped to 20th internationally. The Colorado Board of Education’s solution is to drop science from state requirements.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, also of Texas, has said that gun control leads to bestiality, pipelines are good for wildlife, radical Islamists are disguising themselves as Hispanics and sneaking across the Mexican border, and best of all: Liberal elites are culling the earth’s population through vaccines to preserve the natural resources for themselves. No, seriously, he really said all that. YouTube, watch his lips.

Sen. Tim Neville of Littleton claims the government has stepped up its attack on parents’ rights, so what to do but legislate? He wants it easier for parents to opt kids out of vaccines along with dozens of other rights that the school must inform them and set up procedures for implementation and grievances. I know! Colorado teachers can do all that in the time saved by not teaching science.

I can’t quit thinking about Rand’s comment about dueling. On a hot summer day in 1804, Alexander Hamilton, former secretary of the Treasury, and sitting Vice President Aaron Burr, stood back-to-back, each pointing a pistol at the sky. They walked 20 paces, turned and fired.

What a great way to resolve political differences while thinning the herd at the same time!
