Hamilton — Denial: An invitation to vigilante justice
Recent events in France, Germany, and England tell us what happens when governments refuse to face reality.
For example, on Dec. 22, 2014, in Dresden, thousands of Germans marched to protest what they perceive as a Muslim invasion of their homeland. German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the marchers were over-reacting and should go home.
Recall post-World War I, when the Weimar Republik failed to control the paramilitaries of both the Left and the Right, the National Socialist German Worker’s Party (NSDAP) took control. Journalist, Konrad Heiden, coined the term: Nazi.
Ever politically correct, CNN coverage of the recent massacre of 12 journalists and others suggests France hasn’t done enough to assimilate Muslims into the larger French society. Hello. What if the Muslim immigrants have absolutely no intention of assimilation and intend, instead, to put the whole of France under Sharia Law?
If King Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette had listened to the concerns of the French people, they might not have lost their heads. Recall, the response to the chaos that followed the bloody French Revolution of 1789-1799, was the dictatorship of Napoleon Bonaparte, which then plunged the whole of Europe into horrific wars that did not end until 1815.
Recent French governments have tried to overlook the hundreds of automobiles torched by gangs of Muslim youth. There are Muslim enclaves in Paris and other European cities where the police and even firefighters dare not go. To survive, France, Germany, and England must choose between Islamic violence and Judeo-Christian law and order.
Due to the post-World War II Revolution of Rising Expectations, many citizens expect their government to fix all manner of problems. But the first step toward fixing any problem is to recognize the problem.
Unfortunately, the Obama administration refuses to admit that radical Islam is a problem. Early on, the Obama White House decreed the Muslim religion and terrorism must not be connected in government memoranda or even mentioned in military schools where counter-terrorism is taught. On Sept. 25, 2012, President Obama told the U.N., “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
Denial of the link between Islam and violence when it is obvious to even the low-information voter is a dangerous practice. The prudent government makes clear its recognition of problems and then assures the citizenry that it is taking steps to address their concerns. When governments refuse to act, they invite vigilante justice.
Some examples: In 1883, when law enforcement was too afraid to act, 15 men in Hot Sulphur Springs gunned down the suspected murderer C.W. “Texas Charlie” Wilson. No witnesses could be found. In 1892, Kansas townspeople gunned down the vicious Dalton Gang.
Although efficient, vigilante justice can have disastrous consequences. In 1838, when the Sicilian government proved too weak to settle business disputes, the unintended consequence was: the Mafia.
Actually, we Westerners are faced with two problems: The Islamic terrorists who want to destroy us. And elected leaders such as President Obama, French President Hollande, German Chancellor Merkel, and UK Prime Minister Cameron who appear too politically correct to defend Western Civilization.
