Letter to the editor: Think before you vote

Think about this, who’s really to blame?

Sure it’s easy to blame those that are here now, but are they to blame? We all complain about how high our property taxes are so we blame the assessor. That is the easiest thing to do, but did you know the assessor gets a formula that must be followed? So, blame the state and your greedy neighbors for your tax bill.

We are quick to blame the people on our town board (Granby), the town manager and the mayor for the huge increase in our water bills because that’s the easiest thing to do, but it’s not their fault. It’s the fault of the boards from the last 10 years who didn’t bother to look to the future. They should have been slowly increasing our water costs for the last 10 years, so now we’re stuck paying for their mistakes.

Granby’s staff and elected officials are working hard trying to prevent our cost from going any higher. They are also working hard at trying to find low cost funding to build our new plant. They are in the middle of this project, do you really want to elect new officials that don’t know what’s going on? Do you want to take a chance letting them play catch up, causing the cost to go even higher?

I say let them finish what they started, and remember they all inherited this problem from our past boards. They are not to blame but should be given credit for trying to find the best solution for us.

If you haven’t attended a board meeting, I suggest that you do. There is so much more going on than the average citizen realizes.
