Letter: Constitution Week was blatantly partisan

I was extremely disappointed at this year’s Constitution Week. It was blatantly partisan, nationalism wrapped in God, country, and the flag.

The faux patriotism disguised as love for the Constitution was disturbing. The speaker, a Grade B movie actor with no special knowledge of the Constitution, spewed lies and innuendo about the so-called “socialists” (a dog whistle for Democrats) who are trying to destroy our country.

All in all, it was a travesty of deception in the name of our Constitution. It was a dangerous perversion of our democratic values and beliefs under the guise of our country’s most sacred document, our Constitution.

Shame on the organizers, the chamber of commerce and all the Grand Lake businesses that supported this farce. I might add this county and state are changing. We need to have an inclusive community where people can have a fair exchange of ideas under the laws of our democracy.
