Middle Park Medical Center is most suitable, new name for proposed Granby facility
The name has been changed but the plan to provide more local health care services remains.
The Grand County Rural Health Network has worked with Kremmling Memorial Hospital to determine a new name for the new medical center to be built in Granby, Colorado. In the past it has been referred to as the Granby Medical Campus and was sometimes mistaken with the medical center on East Agate Avenue in Granby, which has a similar name.
From now on the proposed facility south of downtown will be called Middle Park Medical Center.
“We are proud to go forward with this new name because ‘Middle Park’ represents the entire county,” said Jennifer Giacomini, executive director of the Grand County Rural Health Network. “‘Center’ indicates that it is a venue for several local providers to work collaboratively and provide better health care for the residents and guests.”
Bill Widener, chief executive officer of Kremmling Memorial Hospital, said he believes that the new name, “more accurately defines the community we intend to serve.”
As it turns out, local health care leaders agreed that a name incorporating, ‘Middle Park’ would more accurately reflect the goal of providing expanded and improved health care access for all of Grand County; however there is some discussion as to what “Middle Park” is.
Middle Park is the name of the geographical area that includes all of Grand County and a portion of Summit County. Middle Park is, simply, the middle park of the three high mountain parks in the Colorado Rockies. There’s North Park, which encompasses all of Jackson County, and there’s South Park, which encompasses all of Park County.
Middle Park is known as the most unique and variegated of the three high mountain parks since it has more lakes, rivers and streams and smaller, intermediate ranges within the park itself when compared to the relatively flat South park and North Park.
But all three parks are relatively flat mountain valleys rimmed by large mountain ranges, hence the name “park”.
For some, Middle Park is just another name for Grand County. Organizations and businesses on both sides of the county have used the name, such as the high school in East Grand County, which calls itself Middle Park High School. Middle Park Medical Foundation, based in Kremmling, is another organization to use the park’s name in the title.
The new Middle Park Medical Center that’s to be built in Granby will offer expanded health care services to include urgent care, outpatient surgery, imaging services, specialty clinics and on-site laboratory services. Winter Park Optical intends to provide eye care. Mental health services, public health and home health services will also be housed at Middle Park Medical Center.
Timberline Family Practice, operated by Kremmling Memorial Hospital, will be relocating to the new center. The Grand County Rural health Network, a 501(C)3, will own the building, which from now on will be known as Middle Park Medical Center.
