Opinion | Letter: Warren Ward for county surveyor
I would like to take this opportunity to endorse Warren Ward for Grand County Surveyor. I have known Warren since 1989 when I worked for him on I-70 in Glenwood Canyon.
Over the years I have kept track of Warren through his work with the National Society of Land surveyors, courses he has taught to the GIS community and his articles in major surveying trade publications. His writings usually address the need for the deep understanding of boundary law. The industry of land surveying has changed over the past few years and many inexperienced surveyors rely on the innovations in our field to dictate their decisions rather than research and monument identification. Warren understands the role of the surveyor is to establish boundary, not create conflict. His articles have bettered our industry by sharing his wisdom and experience.
I am currently the Chairman of the Legislative Committee for the Professional Land Surveyors of Colorado. During my tenure we have defended the position of County Surveyor from elimination, twice and passed legislation to clarify the role and position. I, nor my committee, could have accomplished this without Warrens guidance and assistance. When we were locked in committee it was Warrens testimony that made the opposition appreciate the value of the position of County Surveyor. We have made great strides in the evolution of document storage, and thanks to the quick action of Warren Ward, land survey plats are part of the electronic revolution.
Over the past decades I have relied upon Warren’s knowledge and experience, not just if something can be done but how. His can-do attitude tempered by his background make Warren Ward your best choice for County Surveyor.
