It is painfully difficult for me to sit in my condo on the west coast of Florida and write this column, when it is 85 degrees outside and I need to be walking on the beach.

I heard you guys got a little snow while I’ve been gone. Our 85-degree days don’t come along very often in Grand Lake, but it’s hard to beat our cool, sunny summer days. The promise of those days of boating, fishing, hiking, biking and golfing is just around the corner. Hang in there. It will stop snowing as soon as I get back this week.

The Trinity Church in the Pines will be open for Food Bank drop off every day this week from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All non-perishable food items are gratefully accepted; however, staples like peanut butter, rice and noodle mixes, cereal and condensed soup are always needed. For more information or to volunteer, call them at 970-627-3510.

It’s amazing how many Grand Lakers chose to vacation in Florida last week – and on this very same Ft. Myers Beach. I just happened to run into Grand Lake Juniper Library’s very own Madame Librarian, Sue Luton. Given the number of events being held at the library this month, she seems to have everything managed nicely, even in her absence.

On Thursday, May 13, at 12:30 p.m., the Brown Bag Book Group will meet to discuss The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, by Stieg Larsson. You still have a week to get this one read. Bring your lunch and join in on the discussion.

On Wednesday, May 19, at 6:30 p.m. Memory Loss and Diabetes: Is there a link? will be presented by Emmalie Conner of the Alzheimer’s Association. This is a free event and refreshments will be served.

Tickets are now on sale for the Juniper Library Annual Progressive Dinner in Grand Lake on Wednesday, May 26, at 5 p.m. Enjoy a delicious sampling of the fare from our wonderful local restaurants while benefiting the Juniper Library. Seating is limited and reservations are required, $60 per person. This event is always a sell-out, so call today at 970-627-8353 for more information.

Here is the deal of the day! If you Join the Grand County Blues Society, which presents the Blues From The Top Music Festival on June 25-28, you can get free tickets to the festival … help keep the dream alive, take part in Grand County entertainment, http://www.grandblues.org.

– If you would like me to pass on information about what’s going on in Grand Lake, you need to make sure I know about it. Please email me at waltonsmith@rkymtnhi.com. My computer crashed last week and I lost a whole bunch of contact info, so please send me an email.
