To bear arms is a protected right
Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. — Benjamin Franklin
Democracy was not trusted by the founding fathers because as you can see in Franklin’s quote above, a ruthless immoral majority can be brutal to the minority. Something more had to be done. The founding fathers had the wisdom to also give us the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to protect the little guy and the minority citizen. The Supreme law of the United States is the Constitution, which gives us (lambs) our rights in the form of amendments. Not the President, nor Congress, nor the Supreme Court can just pass new laws that take away rights given by the Constitution unless they go through the States.
Lets say that you have a national election and an overwhelming percent of the people vote to take away the 2nd Amendment. Can’t do it. That would be unconstitutional and unlawful unless two-thirds of the states had first repealed the amendment. The 1 percent still have the right given by the 2nd Amendment to bear arms.
If Congress passed an unconstitutional gun ban, then who would be criminal? Those with the guns or those infringing on your constitutional right to bear arms? Denying people their 2nd Amendment right is a serious civil rights violation. Anyone enforcing a gun ban would be in violation of your 2nd Amendment and would now be seen as committing the criminal act. Those Americans who would take away your right to firearms are on the wrong side of the law and the Constitution, and our proverbial well-armed lamb is on the side of the law. When the media demonizes gun owners as “out there on the fringe,” we should do well to remember that it is the democrats, progressives and media who are calling for something outside the law.
