Grand County residents can dispose of unused medications during Drug Take Back Day

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. — The Grand County Sheriff’s Office will participate in National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office, 670 Spring St. in Hot Sulphur Springs.
Community members are encouraged to bring unwanted, unused or expired medications for safe and secure disposal. Unused or expired prescription medications pose a serious public safety risk and can contribute to accidental poisoning, overdose and misuse.
“A quick stop at the Sheriff’s Office is an easy step we can all take to protect our loved ones and help keep our community safe,” Sheriff Brett Schroetlin said. “We are proud to partner with the Drug Enforcement Administration to raise awareness about the importance of safely disposing of expired or unused medications in the home.”

Safely disposing of unwanted medications reduces the risk of accidental poisoning among children and pets and helps deter misuse by teens and adults. It also prevents medications from entering streams, rivers and drinking water sources when they are poured down a drain or flushed down a toilet.
The Sheriff’s Office also has a secure MedReturn Drug Collection Unit in the front lobby, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for convenient disposal of excess medications.
