Hot Sulphur Springs roundly rejects construction tax again
Ordinance change also fails to gain support

On Nov. 4, voters in Hot Sulphur Springs turned down two local ballot issues.
Residents voted against Ballot Issue 2A, a proposed 4% tax on the storage or use of construction and building materials for projects within town limits. The measure was expected to generate about $100,000 annually for municipal purposes and would have applied only to those obtaining building permits. The proposal failed with 63 to 195 with less than 25% in favor. This is the second time an effort to raise construction taxes has failed in as many years.
Voters also rejected Question 2B, a measure that would have allowed town ordinances to be published in newspapers by title only, rather than in full. As a result, the complete text of new or proposed ordinances will continue to be printed for public review. This measure received 91 votes in favor and 165 against, meaning only 35% of voters thought this was a good idea.
