Two suspects allegedly involved in last year’s string of Grand Lake burglaries were apprehended by police Wednesday after fleeing the county ahead of court appearances scheduled in January.

Investigators with the Denver Police Department took 44-year-old Colin Sabo and 33-year-old Candice Hewitt into custody on bench warrants that had been issued in Grand County. Local law enforcement had sought the pair since the beginning of this year as warrants were issued after the pair failed to appear at court proceedings.

Both Sabo and Hewitt are defendants in a pair of separate, yet related, criminal cases where both are alleged to have been involved in a burglary ring that operated in the Grand Lake area in late 2017 and early 2018. The two were initially arrested and charged with crimes related to the burglary ring in late August 2018, along with four other suspects.

Hewitt failed to appear in Grand County Court Jan. 17 for an arraignment, at which time a bench warrant was issued for her arrest. A warrant was also issued for Sabo after he failed to appear at his court proceedings Jan. 31.

Officials from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said that the capture of Sabo and Hewitt was the result of collaborative investigative work between the sheriff’s office and the Denver Police Department’s fugitive division.
