The 39th Annual Alpine ArtAffair will add its part to the summer crowd in Winter Park this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22.

Fine arts and crafts from more than 90 artists will be on display Saturday and Sunday in the park setting next to the post office. The juried show draws talented artists from Colorado and around the country.

The festival’s tradition of having something for everyone will continue with jewelry, photography, metalwork, mixed media, pottery, painting, glass, wood, fiber and more, on display and for purchase.

The day starts with the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. The Grand County Historical Association will serve hot dogs and brats for lunch. Snacking will be encouraged with ice cream, snow cones, nuts and kettle corn.

Making it fun for the entire family, creative children’s activities will be available as well as face painting. Artists demonstrating their talents can be found throughout the fair.

HawkQuest Birds of Prey will give demonstrations all day as well. HawkQuest is an organization educating audiences using eagles, owls, falcons and hawks explaining their role in our ecosystem. It allows the audience to experience the birds at close range.

If you just want to just sit and relax, music will be provided to serenade you.

Vance Donates Painting

Local Fine Art painter Karen Vance will be demonstrating her oil painting skills in her booth. Vance is a 28-year resident of Winter Park and is participating in the fair for the 24th time.

Vance donates her paintings to help raise funds for local nonprofits. Over the years the artwork she has donated has raised an impressive $750,000.

This year the proceeds from her painting “A Grand View” will be donated to the Grand Foundation. The piece will be on display in her booth. Through the drawing for the original painting and sale of her giclees, the foundation is hoping to raise $200,000.

“You have to use your God given talents to help other people,” Vance said.

Stiers Participates for the 26th year

Rocky Stiers will be demonstrating his silversmith skills. Stiers has been making the trip to Winter Park for the ArtAffair from Nederland for 26 years.

His new line of copper jewelry and lapidary work will be on display. Stiers uses cut stones, fossils, petrified wood and dinosaur bones to make into necklaces he calls “Primitives.”

Stiers’ contemporary jewelry and hollow-ware will also be available.

“Silver is not an easy medium to work with. If you love it you just have to do it,” he said.

This yea’r poster

Fraser Artist, Elizabeth Kurtak, has once again donated her talent to the Winter Park Alpine ArtAffair by designing the poster commemorating the event.

“This year it features a subject near and dear to my heart – my home and place of business – the Fraser Mercantile Building,” Kurtak said.

It is the fourth time she has designed the poster for the art festival.

All proceeds from the sales of the poster are donated to the Grand County schools to support their arts program, including music, art, and drama.

Kurtak will be signing the posters during the event. The cost of the poster is $20.
