Rocky Mountain National Park’s Stage 2 fire restrictions have been lifted due to the current and anticipated conditions, the park stated in a March 31 Facebook post.

Stage 1 fire restrictions are always in effect in Rocky Mountain National Park, which forbids campfires outside of approved campfire rings in picnic areas and front-country campgrounds, the post stated.

Stage 2 restrictions had been in effect since March 12.

Only specific locations and areas with a metal fire ring or grate are permitted to have fires, including grills and charcoal briquettes. These include some designated wilderness campsites, some picnic areas, and developed campgrounds. Grills and campfires are prohibited elsewhere in the park, according to the park’s website.

In developed campgrounds and picnic areas, petroleum-fueled stoves are permitted. In designated wilderness areas, using a petroleum-fueled stove requires a permit.

Stricter fire rules, such as fire bans, may be implemented by the park at any time.

During fire season, staff continues to monitor fire conditions and implement or lift fire restrictions as necessary. For more information on current fire bans, visit the park’s website.
