Avalanche danger considerable in Grand
Grand County Search and Rescue is warning backcountry recreators to be careful of avalanche conditions after three people died in two avalanches.
On Dec. 18, the first avalanche death of the season was reported outside Crested Butte, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. CAIC also reported two other skiers who died on Dec. 19 in an avalanche near Silverton.
Currently, CAIC rates the avalanche conditions as considerable in all of Colorado’s mountain ranges.
With the current conditions, GCSAR is reminding backcountry recreators to be prepared with a beacon, shovel and probe, as well as choosing routes and runs carefully.
