The last day for Grand County to mail registered voters ballots was Oct. 26, but USPS has yet to update Sky-Hi News and the clerk and recorder’s office on the whereabouts of unreceived ballots that were sent earlier in the month.

About 200 Grand County voters notified the clerk and recorder’s office that they had not received their ballots, according to election officials. The office called the delivery delay “unusual” in an email to Sky-Hi News.

Over the past few days, residents have sent photos of ballots to Sky-Hi News that they previously believed were missing. Those ballots are postmarked Oct. 16 — more than two weeks after the office was scheduled to mail local ballots Oct. 2.

The clerk and recorder’s office said it has not received reports from residents of ballots with Oct. 16 postmarks.

Election officials said the undelivered ballots were dropped off at the Denver General Mail Facility at 7 a.m. Oct. 2. USPS told the clerk’s office that the ballots were not being held at postal facilities in Grand County.

The Colorado Secretary of State wrote to Sky-Hi News that it’s aware of the Grand County ballot issue, and that the county is communicating with the postal service and its ballot-printing vendor.

The office added that voters who have not received their mail ballot should visit a voter center to request a replacement ballot.

The clerk’s office encouraged voters who have not received their ballots to vote in person at the Hot Sulphur Springs Voter Service and Polling Center.

Eligible voters can still register to vote and receive a ballot through Election Day at the voter center.  center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 31, and on Election Day.
