Entrepreneur Investigation Camp introduces kids to business

DiAnn Butler

Many businesses have enjoyed great success in “growing their own” managers and executives. While there can be advantages to bringing in a “fresh set of eyes,” sometimes the best leaders are those who have learned about a business from the inside, committed themselves to a company or an idea and worked faithfully to build a successful business.

Business entrepreneurs, almost by definition, grow themselves. Typically, a business entrepreneur has the vision, the skills and the courage necessary to build a business from scratch, or take an idea and bring it to reality.

Grand County’s business economy has numerous examples of successful business entrepreneurship. There is a lifestyle that encourages people to live, work and play in Grand County, but enticing businesses to locate or relocate in the county can be challenging, due to inherent factors like location and climate.

For many residents who seek to live in Grand County, creating and developing a business idea has been the ticket to achieve that goal.

The Grand County Office of Economic Development (GCED) encourages those business ideas. GCED took the idea one step further and decided to work toward “growing our own” business entrepreneurs by sponsoring an exciting three-day camp June 8-10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Granby Ranch Base Lodge.

Parents are encouraged to give their kids the opportunity to investigate and learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur. The ESI Camp program offers field trips to investigate potential business ideas and businesses currently in the community.

Filled with fun interactive activities, kids will explore the core values of business and learn how to become a “We Are Grand” Entrepreneur. It is a great opportunity to sell products and make money this summer while having fun and meeting others in the community.

Entrepreneurship is a key component of the Grand County business community. This camp is designed to teach those skills and explore our youth’s talent to promote future entrepreneurship. It is a chance to give those kids a head start in looking at their own careers as well as helping to grow the culture of entrepreneurship within our own business community.

To register and/or for more information contact DiAnn Butler by e-mail (dbutler@co.grand.co.us) or by phone 970-531-1343. There is a $50 fee to cover the cost for lunches and books. The registration deadline is May 27.

DiAnn Butler is coordinator of the Grand County Office of Economic Development.
