CodeRED emergency notification system down due to cybersecurity incident

Grand County officials are alerting residents and visitors that the CodeRED emergency notification system is currently unavailable following a cybersecurity incident, leading to a widespread outage.

CodeRED is the system the county uses to transmit telephone calls, text messages and emails with necessary information during emergencies. Officials emphasize that this outage does not affect other Grand County systems or data nor does it affect the 9-1-1 dispatch center.

Residents who have signed up for CodeRED alerts should be advised that those messages are temporarily unavailable.

In the event of an emergency, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management will use FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System to notify the community. To receive IPAWS alerts, mobile phones must be set to allow wireless emergency alerts, typically found in advanced notification settings.

At this time, there are no active incidents or disasters in Grand County. Should an emergency occur while CodeRED remains down, the county will share messages through:

  • GCEmergency.com
  • The Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management Facebook pages
  • NOAA weather radios
  • KFFR 88.3 FM

As a precaution, residents who registered for CodeRED are encouraged to update passwords on other online accounts if they used the same password for CodeRED.

Officials ask the public not to call 9-1-1 or the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number with questions about CodeRED. Instead, inquiries can be directed to the County’s information line at 970-725-3802 or emailed to OEM@co.grand.co.us.

As always, call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
