The Colorado Division of Aeronautics, part of the state department of transportation, presented awards for the state’s best airport and aviation professional at a conference June 21-23. Grand County Airports Manager Josh Schroeder took home the latter of the awards, while Denver International Airport won airport of the year.

The division recognized Schroeder for his work managing the operations of the Grand County Airport/Emily Howell Warner Field and Kremmling-McElroy Field airports. According to the State Aviation Journal, the division gives the award to people who advance its mission of creating a safe, efficient and effective statewide aviation system.

Schroeder credited airport staff, Grand County administration, airport stakeholders, volunteers and others for helping him keep the airports running smoothly in a quote in the State Aviation Journal.

Starting as an aviation technician in 2005, Schroeder’s career in the field led him to study Aviation Management at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, work as a maintenance technician for Grand County in 2017 and become the county’s airports manager in 2019.

After giving Schroeder the award at the Colorado Springs conference, the division presented it to him again at a Grand County Board of County Commissioners meeting in July.
