The Grand County Sheriff’s Office sent out a press release warning community members of ongoing fraudulent callers who pretend to be from the sheriff’s office. The callers use the name of legitimate deputies to gain legitimacy and then tell people that they have an unpaid warrant or court judgement that needs to be paid on the phone or through bitcoin.

The sheriff’s office is reminding community members that law enforcement will never contact individuals to settle a financial transaction over the phone. The only valid way to clear a warrant or court judgement is in-person at the sheriff’s office or directly with the court.

Anyone who receives a suspected fraudulent call should call the sheriff office’s non-emergency dispatch at 970-725-3311.
