Grand County’s interests have never been paramount to Grand Park

To the Editor:
In reference to Stephanie Souiers’ letter to the editor ranting about Grand Park’s new rec center:
I think what she fails to see is how Grand Park has conducted itself up to this point. The development of Grand Park has never had Grand County’s best interest in mind.
Yes, a rec center is a wonderful amenity; however, it is a front for big business development with only their selfish interest in mind. And as Stephanie says “do your best to comprehend how much prestige this rec. center will bring to Grand Park” not Grand County.
If Grand Park wanted to operate with some integrity they would not be insultingly snubbing qualified local contractors and other businesses related to a project of this type here in Grand County. The rec center is being used as a tool to help market their somewhat failing attempt to sell their very misleading overpriced monopoly homes. A project of this size is going to have a large impact on Winter Park/Fraser and the whole east end of the county “for sure.
Have we ever stopped to think that we may not be ready for a development of this size if they are not willing to put the money back into the local economy? We are flooding the market with homes priced at half a million dollars and up, and creating segregation between the local and tourist dollar. If Grand Park wanted to regain some respect with the community they should seriously consider putting local businesses to work on the project rather than spending the money on the Front Range.
