Grand Lake Area Historical Society’s annual community picnic is celebrating 10 years on Aug. 17. The tradition includes old-timey music, bratwurst and hot dogs with homemade sides and dessert.

This year’s end-of-summer celebration takes place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. in Grand Lake’s recently completed Cottage Court History Park.

“It’s a wonderful grassy venue for people to just come and picnic, settle down or play,” society secretary Elin Capps said. “Community donations fully funded the construction of the park.”

The historical society has been working since 2009 to fully activate the Cottage Court History Park, and the venue is now open for use and available to rent, according to its website.

The 12-person history park garage band will play live music with a vintage sound for attendees while they enjoy warm weather and food.

“The community cooks bring the sides,” Capps said. “It’s like having a giant potluck. Everyone comes eats and listens to music and talks. It truly is a picnic.”

Capps said community members have already signed up to provide many potluck-style dishes.

“We are all set on beans,” she laughed.

Construction has been completed at the history park, and the venue is now up and running for local events.
