Construction is underway at Winter Park’s newest playground in Hideaway Park, according to updates shared by the town on Facebook.
The facility, located at 78821 U.S. Highway 40, will feature a futuristic slide and multiple climbing structures, with a tunnel representing Grand County’s Moffat Tunnel, according to a video rendering shared by the town.
The playground’s grand opening is scheduled for June 18, although the exact date is subject to change, according to the post. For now, the area remains closed during the active construction period, which began in this month.
Additionally, the town completed the Idlewild playground, located up the road, in October. This adaptive playground was two years in the making and includes ADA-inclusive equipment, sensory-friendly zones and accessible pathways for users of varying ability levels.
Demolition of the old playground at Hideaway Park began on Oct. 27, marking the start of a major playground transformation in downtown Winter Park. Crews expect the demolition phase to take about two weeks, after which parts of the site will remain closed through the winter months, according to the town’s website.
Construction of the new playground is being led by Fisk Lawnscapes. The project includes installation of a new play structure, updated landscaping, fencing, and safety surfacing. Work is expected to continue through early summer, with completion anticipated in June.
During construction, certain areas around the playground will remain closed to ensure public safety. Once complete, the upgraded play area will provide an enhanced and modernized outdoor space for families and visitors to enjoy, the town says.
