Following a cross-country road trip from Burlington, Vermont to Fraser, Colorado, Sky-Hi News’ new reporter has arrived in Grand County.
Izzy Wagner will be working as a general assignment reporter focused on the towns of Granby, Fraser and Winter Park, as well as the East Grand School District. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, she started her writing career as a culture reporter at a local newspaper in Oglethorpe County, Georgia while studying journalism and Spanish at the University of Georgia.
In the summer of 2024, Wagner completed a 2,650-mile walk from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. While she hiked, she documented her adventure on a personal blog and wrote stories about the highs and lows that came with carrying everything she owned on her back.
After her thru-hike, she moved across the country to Burlington, Vermont to cover culture, politics and the environment for the statewide independent digital news organization VTDigger. She wrote about a variety of topics including pathogen-resistant bee colonies, area philosophers and environmental legislation.
Wagner enjoys reporting on everything from music and the outdoors, to public land policy and local politics. When she isn’t writing, she is usually doing something outside. She moved to Colorado in search of more mountains to climb, both literally and metaphorically. Wagner looks forward to getting involved in the Grand County community and covering the issues that matter to Sky-Hi’s readers.
