On Nov. 7, Jackson County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a man holding a knife to his throat near the corner of 5th Street and Main Street in Walden.
Deputy Hailey Vigil was the first to arrive on scene. She quickly located the individual. By using calm and effective verbal communication, she was able to deescalate the situation and convince the man to disarm himself, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
The person was then taken into protective custody by deputies with the assistance of EMS, without incident.
“The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office commends the professionalism and swift actions of Deputy Vigil, whose calm demeanor and quick response ensured a peaceful resolution to a potentially dangerous situation,” it stated on Facebook.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Vigil began her journey with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in November 2021 as a Dispatcher. In the fall of 2023, she entered the Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy, where she graduated and earned her badge as a deputy.
