In September, K9 Milo worked his last shift at the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Partnered with Deputy DJ Elthorp since 2017, the pair have been a faithful and well-loved team after working together for the past six years.

Milo is a German Shepherd, born on May 3, 2016. Originally from the Czech Republic, he was brought to the United States after doing his initial K9 training in Germany. Milo served the community as a dual-purpose canine certified in patrol, tracking and narcotics detection.

Among many highlights in his career, K9 Milo received the High Desert Police K9 Challenge Award in narcotics detection and second place for agility in 2021, along with the Narcotics Case of the Year award in 2022.

Milo will continue to live with Elthorp in his retirement, and will enjoy spending more time playing with the three cats and two other dogs at home.
