Kremmling voters to fill three trustee seats April 7

Meg Soyars Van Hauen/Sky-Hi News
Voters in Kremmling will elect a mayor and three trustees in the April 7 municipal election.
Incumbent Wes Howell is the only mayoral candidate and is running unopposed. Five candidates are seeking three trustee seats: challengers Madeline Roller and Tawna Tonneson, and incumbents Brad Perry, Brady Mathis and Leo Pesch.
Ballots will be mailed between March 16 and March 23. Overseas ballots were sent in late February. Residents can return ballots by mail or drop them off at the ballot box in front of the CSU Extension Building, 210 11th St., at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall.
Town Clerk Teagan Serres will administer the election.
Sky-Hi News asked the candidates to provide biographies. The following responses were submitted.
Wes Howell, incumbent mayor

I am a Kremmling local who graduated from West Grand High School. I was first elected to the board of trustees in 2010 and served for six years. I was then appointed as Trustee in 2021 to fill a vacancy.
I was appointed as mayor by his fellow trustees on January 17, 2024. I am regularly involved in community pee-wee sports programs while raising three children here in Kremmling.
This biography was adapted from the town of Kremmling website.
Brady Mathis, incumbent trustee

It is my privilege to serve our community as a town trustee and as the assistant fire chief for the Kremmling Fire Protection District. As a West Grand graduate, I began my career in software development and earned a degree in information technology. However, I found a passion for the fire service when I joined Kremmling Fire in 2009.
I feel very fortunate to have grown up, married my wife, Shelly, and raised our family right here in Kremmling where we both live and work. Since my appointment to the board in 2024, I have experienced the complexities of meeting our citizens’ needs while working within a balanced budget.
I am running for election because I want to support the people and businesses that keep our town running every day, encourage a shared sense of responsibility for our town, and build on the hard work of our predecessors to keep Kremmling a place we can be proud of.
Leo Pesch, incumbent trustee

My name is Leo Pesch and I am excited to run for town council again this year. I have been an active member of our community for over 40 years, and I am passionate about contributing to the growth and well-being of our town.
Throughout my time here, I have seen the potential of our community. I believe together, we can tackle challenges and create opportunities that benefit Kremmling.
I am dedicated to transparency, accountability and service to our community. I believe that with your support, we can make informed decisions that lead to positive change. I genuinely care about each resident and wish to represent your interests on the council.
Thank you for consideration and I look forward to the opportunity to work together and build a brighter future for our community.
Madeline Roller, trustee challenger

My name is Madeline Roller. I am running for the Kremmling Board of Trustees because this town is my home. This is where I grew up and where I own a business.
I serve on the Kremmling Board of Adjustments and as a superintendent for the Middle Park Fair and Rodeo. I’m also a member of Kremmling Community Heart and Soul. I have a passion to see Kremmling thrive while maintaining the values and sense of community that have helped shape who I am today.
I care deeply about our community. I want to ensure it will be a place where families and businesses can thrive. As our community faces new opportunities and challenges, I believe we need to have leadership that understands our town’s history and respects the traditions that make it special.
We can be welcoming while also supporting practical improvements, maintaining infrastructure and making thoughtful decisions concerning growth. It is important that we plan responsibly for the future.
I believe in listening to our residents, being transparent in decision-making and working together. Our town has always been strongest when neighbors look out for one another and work toward common goals.
I would be proud to represent Kremmling as Town Trustee. I look forward to giving back to the community that has given me so much and to help protect the small-town character we all value.
Tawna Tonneson, trustee challenger

I’m a long-time community supporter who believes in giving back and serving locally. I’ve been actively involved in supporting organizations such as the Cliffview Assisted Living Center, the Kremmling preschool and other local efforts, using my professional experience to help strengthen community connections.
Through my former role as the assistant manager at the Family Dollar in town, I had the opportunity to use available resources. When the store closed, that support went away — and it reflected how closely community giving is tied to opportunity and leadership. Additionally, I realized how crucial it is to have leadership that helps sustain those kinds of efforts long-term. I see serving as a town trustee as a continuation of that commitment.
Residents deserve leadership that listens. Our town is made up of diverse voices and perspectives. I support open discussion, respectful debate, and clear explanations of decisions that prioritize the community’s future stability.
If elected, I will serve with a fresh perspective, an attitude of transparency and integrity and a willingness to collaborate. I believe local government should reflect the same values that make a small town strong: showing up for one another, giving back and planning responsibly for the future.
