Letter to the editor: America doesn’t have a “king”
Clarinda, Iowa, formerly of Grand Lake

While an “estimated 350” participated in the first No Kings demonstration on June 14, 16,000 Grand county residents chose otherwise. I’m not sure exactly what “no kings” pertains to, but if it pertains to President Trump, I need to point out he was elected by the citizens of the United States and that there are countries (including England) with actual kings.
The last time America was ruled by a king was when the Declaration of Independence proclaimed our separation from England. At that time, the Army, Marine Corps and Navy were established and for 250 years we have been provided unequaled liberties including the right for an estimated 350 Grand county residents to hold a “No Kings” demonstration.
A Sky-Hi News article on the June 14 rally included a picture of a woman with a sign asking why there was money for a parade. That is easy to answer: the parade was to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States Army. By the way, the Army requested a permit for the parade in 2024 and it was granted by the Biden administration.
