Letter to the editor: Coca-Cola’s intentions
While I am glad to see that funds are being made available to help in the plight of the dwindling water supply of the Fraser River, I am curious to know “what’s in it for them?” as far as Coca-Cola and their local subsidiaries.
Seldom are contributions made with no strings attached. The role that sugary drinks have played in rampant tooth decay along with a host of medical ailments secondary to obesity such as diabetes, higher risks of some cancers, stroke and heart disease has me asking that question.
As a dentist in Grand County for 24 years, I found (to no surprise) that many of the children and adults with the highest decay rates were also the ones consuming the most sodas. Has a deal been made to make Coke products available in schools, public events, recreation district facilities, etcetera?
Just a logical question, as philanthropy is often tied to business.
