Middle Park High School awarded its second quarter Internship Excellence Award to Carolyn Dominquez, who interned at Middle Park Health.
During her 50-hour internship at Middle Park Health, Dominguez, a junior, exemplified the four pillars of the internship program: academic excellence, safety and belonging, respect and enjoyment, according to a recent press release from Middle Park High School Career Connections Director Kayleen Malone.
Student interns have the opportunity to do nursing rotations in every department at the hospital, exposing them to all of Middle Park Health’s services, including in the radiology, emergency, surgical clinical, lab and rehab departments, Malone said, and the interns awarded for their excellence demonstrate commitment to learning as much as possible.
“Carolynn went above and beyond, learning everything she could,” Malone said.
Middle Park High School’s internship program started with the Homegrown Talent Initiative in 2021 and has since expanded. The program is actively working to draw participation from local businesses interested in working with high school interns, Malone said.
The internship program aims to help students develop life and career skills, she said, and to take learning “outside of the school building.”
