Judith McGee Canup passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at Porter Hospice in Littleton, Colorado, on July 5, 2025. Judy was born on February 12, 1943, in Dallas, Texas.
Judy met the love of her life, Dan Canup, during high school in Dallas. They married soon after and shared 62 years of life, family, and adventure together.
Judy began her professional career at Liquid Paper Corporation, where she was the company’s first employee. She served as the Administrative Manager of the Communications Department, playing a key role in the company’s early growth. Her work with Liquid Paper took her and her family to Toronto, Canada; Brussels, Belgium; and briefly to Sydney, Australia. Judy balanced her responsibilities at work with raising a family during a time of frequent moves and international transitions.
In 1979, after the sale of Liquid Paper, the family moved to Granby, Colorado. Judy and Dan briefly helped manage Shadow Mountain Ranch before purchasing True Value Country Hardware. For 21 years, Judy worked alongside Dan to run the store, which was a staple of Main Street and eventually expanded into the lumber and building materials business. The hardware store was not just a business, it was a family effort and a part of the community.
In retirement, Judy and Dan split their time between summers in Grand County and winters in Green Valley, Arizona. Judy enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, golfing, and the beauty of life in the mountains.
Judy is survived by her children Amy (Jim) Calhoun of Castle Rock, CO; Jynnifer Canup of Granby/Lakewood, CO; and Dan J. Canup of Grand Lake, CO; her grandchildren Jamey, Janson, Kate, and Nick; and her dog, Bernie.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date.
