Margaret “Margot” Thompson passed away on Dec. 5, 2023 at the age of 88 in Aurora Colorado. Margot was born in Massachusetts to her parents Robert and Margaret on Dec. 17, 1934. She was raised in North Adams MA and enjoyed many east coast activities such as sailing and skiing with her parents. She attended Colby College and graduated from physical therapy school in Boston. The Thompsons spent many summers at Cape Cod. Margot returned to “The Cape” for many years.

In the early 1960s Margot moved to Colorado to pursue her career as a physical therapist at The Children’s Hospital. In 1968, Margot and her friend, Willie Williams helped develop a ski program at Arapahoe Ski Basin for people with disabilities. The program was later moved to Winter Park Ski Area. She Remained very active teaching skiing to children. She was a founding member of Friends of Children’s Hospital Sports Program. She was able to attend winter Olympic Games in Norway and Austria, and she supported the development of the Paralympic Games. Margot remained close to many of her ski students. Margot earned her lifelong lift pass to Winter Park because of her volunteering with the National Sports Center for the Disabled.
Margot and Willie built a second home in Winter Park Highlands. Margot remained a part time Winter Park resident until 2020. In the Mountains Margot enjoyed going to Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater, especially when her goddaughter, Bailey Roberts, was in a performance. She had many “mountain friends” who loved spending time with her.
Margot left employment at Children’s Hospital Physical Therapy in late 1960’s for work with the Handicapped Children’s Program for the State of Colorado. She enjoyed traveling throughout Colorado as part of the medical team for the state. During her travels, she made many friends in the medical communities throughout Colorado.

Margot became involved in gardening and earned her Master Gardening status. She spent many hours volunteering for the Botanic Gardens in Denver.

Margot was a dog lover and had many dogs throughout her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by dear friends, Elizabell “Willie” Williams, Claralou Shannon and Ann Grady.

Margot enjoyed spending time with her cousins Barbara, Tim, Doug, and Jim.

Margot loved holidays, especially Christmas time. She enjoyed giving her friends beautiful ornaments from her travels.

Margot was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making delicious meals for her friends. Her specialties were lamb chops, artichokes and lobster.

Margot was a generous and loving soul. She will be missed by all her friends and family.
