August 6, 1957 – August 9, 2025

Matthew Crawford Sutton, 68, of Tabernash, Colorado, passed away on August 9, 2025. Born on August 6, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Matt moved to Grand County in 1982 and spent his years in the county working with many known community establishments including the Winter Park Ski Area, Young Life, Grand County Library District and could be frequently seen helping out at Shauna’s clinic, Byers Peak Veterinary Clinic. Matt was also a licensed Professional Engineer who spent many years working with metallurgy throughout the United States and abroad and was also responsible for many structural designs throughout the state of Colorado. Matt was known for his hard work, problem solving and willingness to assist the community. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his passions.

Matt’s hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He was easily spotted by his tall stature and cowboy hat, which was never left behind. When he wasn’t working he could be found on his horse in the back country, working cows along Highway 40, or tackling projects on the family ranch. When a break was needed he would head south to spend time in Mexico with his many friends and family.

Matt is survived by his loving wife Shauna, twins Jaime (Kevin) and Ian (Shelley), four grandchildren, siblings Marc (MaryAnne) and Susan (Alan), father Donald, mother Elaine, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held on September 6, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Granby Library, 55 Zero St. Granby CO 80446. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to a charitable organization of the donor’s choice in Matt’s honor.

Matt’s family knows his legacy will live on through the connections made, love he shared and the beautiful memories made together. They find comfort that he is now in God’s peaceful, loving embrace.
