UPDATED: Pre-evacuation orders issued for neighborhoods northeast, south of Silver Creek Fire
Update 4 p.m. Thursday: Latigo Ranch, Old Park and Gore Lakes have been placed on pre-evacuation notice due to active hot spots.
A new map of the fire shows that it is now 6,870 acres, growing mostly on the north and northeast. It has crossed the National Forest boundary onto state land at the Milk Creek State Trust. A Type 2 incident management team has been ordered.
Community briefings will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Old Park fire station and Rabbit Ears Village.
A pre-evacuation notice has been issued for residents in the Lake Agnes, Rabbits Ears Village, and Bear Mountain Ranch areas due to increased Silver Creek Fire activity.
High winds and lower levels of humidity created conditions for the fire to grow and it has spread almost 1,000 acres, mostly on the northeast side.
No structures are immediately threatened, but the fire did spread onto the Latigo Ranch property on Wednesday. The closest homes on the northeastern side of the fire are about three miles away.
The fire is at 5,973 acres and over 100 personnel are currently assigned. Additional crews are on order.
Growth primarily occurred near the Buffalo Park area on the east of Rabbit Ears pass near Forest Service Road 100.
According to the Grand County Office of Emergency Management, the hot spots on the southern edge of the fire are still within the containment zone, while the growth on the northern edge is outside of containment.
Multiple single-engine air tankards were utilized for water drops yesterday. Evacuations continue for hunters and campers in the area.
With hot and dry weather conditions, as well as the winds and low humidity, the fire is expected to continue its spread on the northeastern side today and tomorrow.
Smoke will continue to be highly visible in Kremmling, Steamboat Springs and Highway 40, as well as surrounding areas.
Officials will meet later today to discuss further closures.
