The town of Granby repaired the handicapped-accessible entrance outside of the downtown building that houses Sky-Hi News Office on Sept. 22. After workers had pulled up the old concrete in the weeks prior, Castle LLC of Kremmling was brought in the finish the job with the help of town staff.

In the process, they discovered a pinched pipe that housed the electrical wiring for the street lamps along E. Agate Ave. After repairing that, they laid the concrete for the new entrance.

The sidewalk at this location was last repaired in the months after Marvin Heeymeyer demolished the Sky-Hi News building with his modified Komatsu D355A bulldozer on June 4, 2004. According to Patrick Brower, the author of “Killdozer: The True Story of the Colorado Bulldozer Rampage,” tread marks are still visible nearby the office.

Estimates of the damages to the town from Heemeyer’s rampage reach upwards of $7 million, though Brower believes the total number is closer to $10 million. According to the town of Granby, the total cost to repave the sidewalks in front of Sky-Hi News, United Business Bank and Polhamus Park was $21,258.
