Small fire breaks out in Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park

A 0.2 acre fire was located below the Needles in the Lumpy Ridge area of Rocky Mountain National Park early Friday, Aug. 22.

Fire managers at Rocky Mountain National Park were notified of a 0.2-acre fire below the Needles in the Lumpy Ridge area on the morning of Friday, Aug. 22, according to a representative of the park. 

The Estes Valley Fire Protection District has provided resources, and additional fire crews are now on the scene. The cause, which park officials believe was lighting, is still under investigation. Smoke may be visible from Estes Park, officials said.
